AHS Leadership Training for HS Female Athletes

ASPIRE HIGHER SPORTS LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR FEMALE HS ATHLETES
The goal of this Aspire Higher Sports Seminar is to help female athletes develop an understanding of how to be better leaders. This seminar is designed to give athletes ideas and action strategies to help them be a positive influence on their team’s success. We want to teach leaders to lead through awareness and action.
SEMINAR/WORKSHOP DATE: MLK Day Monday, January 20th 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Athletes must bring their own lunch.
PROGRAM COORDINATORS: Sheilah Gulas retired Softball Coach from Ashland University; Julie Jones former University of Akron and CSU Softball Coach; Karen Linder retired Softball and Basketball Coach from KSU and Ashland University; Lori Bodnar, retired KSU Assistant Basketball Coach; Jessica Toocheck, Medina High School Softball Coach; Tony Scibelli, Walsh High School Softball Coach.

FORMAT WILL BE A COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING:
HS and college coaches along with former collegiate leaders/captains giving presentations, leading round table discussions, and facilitating group activities that address how to be an effective leader. This is interactive, not lectured based.
*Communication with coaches, teammates, school personnel, and umpires reinforcing team culture, standards, and accountability.
*Create a vision and mission for your team that emphasizes we over me, including standards of operation.
*Leadership qualities and responsibilities. Identify your leadership style
Leading by example
Being a vocal leader
*Conflict management – solving issues, enforcing standards, handling conflict.
*Confidence, where it comes from.
ACTION STEPS EMPHASIZED:
*Become more vocal, be a voice of positive influence.
*Develop personal relationships with teammates.
*Hold self and teammates accountable, upholding standards.
*Be confident in yourself and ability to be a positive influencer.
*Be aware of where your team is mentally and emotionally and help them get the right mental focus.

GROUP DISCUSSION AND ACTIVITIES – rotations as groups
10:40 –11:15 / 11:20 – 12:00 / Lunch 12:00 – 12:30 / 12:35 – 1:10 /1:15– 1:50
A. CREATING A TEAM CULTURE, RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY – pillars, standards (leadership pillars)
B. LEADERSHIP STYLES & PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES
C. CONFLICT MANAGEMENT
D. CONFIDENCE, WHERE DOES IT COME FROM? Practice, teammates, experience, dealing with doubt/fear
2:00 – 2:30 p.m. CHALLENGES INVOLVED IN BEING A LEADER.
Having the confidence to stand and lead through the many ups and downs of the season.
COST: $125 enables each school or team to identify 4 athletes to attend if registered by January 8th. Athletes can be of any age class and sport. Registration after January 8th is $150. A HS or team may send additional athletes for $25 per athlete. Individual athletes can sign up for $40 prior to January 8th, $50 after. Athletes must be pre-registered with an email address as there will be pre-seminar info sent.

Check can be made out to KLSBT and sent to KLSBT, Aspire Higher Sports, 514 Karen Trail, Tallmadge, OH 44278 or can be brought day of seminar. You may also pay with cash the day of the event. Individual athletes can sign up with a credit card at www.aspirehighersports.com. High Schools or teams that would like to sign up with a credit card can email, call, or text Karen Linder and she will contact you to make arrangements. Pre-seminar info is being sent out for athletes to bring with them so please give us an email address of a person who will respond. Coaches are welcome to attend.
Registration options, email name of school or team, name of athletes attending, sports, grade and email address of a coach or AD where pre-seminar information and confirmation can be sent.
SCHOOL OR TEAM REGISTRATION FOR 4 OR MORE ATHLETES
