Lessons from Cavs and Indians

CAVS AND INDIANS BELIEVE

October 25, 2016 was one of the best sports days in Cleveland history with the CAVS getting their rings and hanging their Championship banner and the Indians hosting game 1 of the World Series.

Even though it has been a long time coming for the sports fans of northeast Ohio it has been overwhelming to see the renewed sense of excitement for Cleveland becoming Believeland.

It is amazing how the confidence and leadership of Lebron James and Terry Francona have brought a new sense of respect to Cleveland. Believing and trusting in themselves, their mission, and their teams has energized the whole state of Ohio.

As coaches and parents, I hope that we can learn that success takes work and discipline over an extended period of time. It does not happen over night. It starts with self discipline in thought, beliefs, emotions, and actions. Lebron became Lebron because of his work ethic and his strong belief that his work would pay off. He showed his teammates what working, believing and trusting could do if everyone buys into the we mentality.

Terry Francona has been laying the foundation for the Indians ever since he came to Cleveland. He understands that it takes time to build a championship culture. It is about having the right relationships and the right people in the program. It takes players who are willing to sacrifice the me for the we. Players who will play for each other with confidence, belief, and trust in the coaching staff, in their teammates, and in themselves. Developing a winning culture takes sacrifice, work, and trust.

We owe the INDIANS and CAVS a big thank you for demonstrating what unselfish positive energy can do for a team, a city, and a state. It all started with a confident consistent belief that we can when we put our minds to it.

WE ARE BELIEVELAND IN CLEVELAND!
